Lake Maggiore (Lag Magior in Piedmontese, Lag Maggior in Lombard) is a pre-alpine fluvio-glacial lake, the second largest after Lake Garda. Its shores are shared between Switzerland and Italy and it offers endless possibilities for visits, boat trips and diving. The Sasso Moro Hotel & Restaurant is in the heart of Lake Maggiore, immersed in its waters and in its history.

On foot, by bike or by mountain bike, the Lake Maggiore area offers endless possibilities to enjoy yourself, discover something new and be amazed. The Sasso Moro Hotel & Restaurant is in the heart of an area with a wealth of attractions, a starting point for visits, trips and walks. A place to start from and come back to, with eyes full of beauty.

The Sasso Moro Hotel and Restaurant is located in the little village of Arolo, in the municipality of Leggiuno, on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, on the road that leads from Sesto Calende to Locarno in Switzerland. The Italian word "moro" means dark brown and refers to the colour of the rocky cliff that characterises the site. It is particularly important from a tourism point of view due to its landscape, thanks to the prime location, not only supermunicipal but also national and European in scale: some attractions such as the Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso and the Borromeo Islands are pearls of indisputable beauty and popular destinations in the area.

The hotel, no longer in use, is the result of an aggregation of fishermen’s houses and boat shelters from the late-nineteenth century, facing the lake, and of a renovation that began towards the end of the 1950s.

It offered accommodation until around the beginning

of the new millennium, when it gradually dwindled until stopping completely. The building is in an extremely important position, a unique setting with a wide 180° panorama of the lake.
